The Way Live DJing evolves
I saw Rusko in Swansea on Saturday night. He was awesome, definitely killed the night and lived up to all the expectations I've come to have.
It was one of those nights where I knew every track he played, loved every second of it.
My one gripe is this. I don't like the way live DJing is evolving. As an aspiring DJ myself, I like to watch other DJ's and pick up skills and techniques from them. With all this new technology it's a lot more difficult to pick up what the DJ is actually doing.
I think it's the reason I like DMC so much. Vinyl records, two turntables, one mixer, sorted. You know where you are, and you can definitely appreciate the skill the DJ is putting on show.
Rusko was using CD decks, there were turntables there too, although I don't think he used them. His Vestax mixer had 8 channels. Now don't get me wrong, he's not there to be mixing records, he's more of a producer than anything else, but I just have an urge to want to know what he's actually doing. Whether it's all premixed, I just want to know how much he has under his own control.
I think it will be a real shame if vinyl mixing stops happening, I don't really believe in CD decks myself. I'm a battle DJ and it's always been vinyl. You have a much bigger area to work with, and you feel a lot more involved with the track.
I may be talking crap but it does make sense to me.
Will be seeing Caspa & Rusko at Sheffield next weekend, totally different affair. I will not get as close to see what equipment they are using. It will all be about volume and tunes.
